This family of requirements (FR) contains 26 documents that provide
an industry standard of measurement that can be used to guarantee your
customer's satisfaction with the systems you operate or supply. Effective
operator services are the key to providing your customers with the best
communication possible. The comprehensive Operator Services Systems Generic
Requirements (OSSGR) FR focuses on requirements, objectives, and additional
considerations critical to the design and use of operator services systems.
The documents describe the capabilities, services, billing options, and
handling options of operator services systems for both operator and automated
call processing. Interactions between operator services systems and customers,
the physical environment, the electrical environment, other network elements,
and data networks are defined.
The OSSGR Common Capabilities modules consist of various functional sections
describing the technical capabilities of the operator services system that are
common to more than one service or user. They cover such topics as:
- Signaling - Listing Service Database
- Transmission - Intercept Database
- Administration - Operator Reference Database
- Maintenance - Announcement and Detection Systems
- System Interfaces - Report Subsystem
- IWSS/OSS Switch Interface - Real-Time Reporting
- Operator Subsystems - Speech Processing Peripheral (SPP) to Support
Directory Assistance Automation (DAA)
- Internal Databases - SCCI to Support DAA and Line Information
Database
Along with the Common Capabilities modules, this FR contains Feature Specific
Documents (FSDs) that are organized by service, billing, or handling option. The
FSDs are structured to facilitate reference to specific areas relating to the
processing of calls. Each section of an FSD corresponds to a Common
Capabilities section and each FSD section discusses how a Common Capability is
used for the specific service, billing option, or handling option described in
that particular FSD, as well as how the various capabilities interact. Whether
you are an equipment supplier or an operator service provider, you can use the
OSSGR to ensure that your customers get the best call handling service possible.
Equipment Suppliers can use the OSSGR to customize equipment for their customers
by first consulting with them to find out what subsets of requirements should be
developed. The result will be a savings of time and development costs.
Operator Service Providers can use the OSSGR as an industry standard to have
their equipment developed and to ensure that equipment provided by more than one
supplier will interconnect successfully.
