Generic Requirements for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) Network Management System (NMS)-Element Management System (EMS) Interface
Document Number GR-3105
Issue Number 01
Issue Date Dec 2000
ABSTRACT: GR-3105, Generic Requirements for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) Network Management System (NMS) - Element Management
System (EMS) Interface, sets forth the Telcordia view of proposed generic requirements for the operations interface between a
Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Network Management System (NMS) and a WDM Element Management System (EMS) for management of a
WDM network. Management information across this interface may be used to manage Optical Network Elements (ONEs) including the Optical
Add-Drop Multiplexer (OADM), the Optical Cross-Connect (OXC), and the Optical Terminal Multiplexer (OTM).
This document specifies generic requirements for an NMS-EMS interface managing WDM network elements such as Optical Fiber Amplifier
(OFAs), OTMs, OADMs, Fiber Cross-Connects (FXCs), Wavelength Selective Cross-Connects (WSXCs), Wavelength Interchanging Cross-Connects
(WIXCs), and OXC Hybrids (e.g., FXC/WSXC, WIXC/WSXC) supporting WDM functionality. These ONEs may be deployed in a variety of network
configurations such as Point-to-Point, Linear Chain, and Optical Channel Dedicated Protection Ring (OChDPRING) topologies; see GR-2979,
The interface functions are defined for managing WDM networks in the areas of Configuration Management, Performance Management,
Fault Management, Security Management, and Common Operations Management. No relevant accounting management features have currently been
defined for inclusion in this document.
