ABSTRACT: Issue 2 of SR-3928, Optical Fiber and Fiber Optic Cable Certification, replaces Issue 1.
Optical Fiber or Fiber Optic Cable Certification is a Telcordia service offered to Equipment Manufacturers. It is part of the
Telcordia Certification and Registration Program, which also provides Process Registration services, such as ISO 9000 Registration and
CSQP Registration. The Telcordia Fiber or Cable Product Certification focuses on product performance. As generically defined in
SR-3858, Fiber or Cable Certification has two major components: (1) Certification Assessment and (2) Certification Support. A Fiber
or Cable Certification Assessment determines if a product is 100% conformant to a specified set of criteria (called Certification Type)
addressing specific technologies and capabilities. The Fiber or Cable Certification Support promotes the use of the Telcordia
Certification Mark and associated Directory, helps to assure continued compliance, and assesses the need for recertification.
The Certification criteria for Fiber or Cable products defined in this Special Report are selected by Telcordia from Telcordia
published Generic Requirements and industry standards, both of which have been extensively socialized with the industry and
Product compliance to these criteria provides a minimum level of product performance to maintain network integrity and furnishes
information beneficial to the telecommunication providers in evaluating the suitability of the product for their networks. In the
opinion of Telcordia, compliance to generic requirements is important for efficient deployment and operation of optical components.
