Document Number SR-NWT-002280
Issue Number 01
Issue Date Jun 1992
ABSTRACT: The ultimate goal of the Information Networking Architecture (INA) Field Experiment (FE) initiative can be stated as helping to define
a network architecture that successfully addresses the following issues:
- Gaining consistency, speed, and low cost in end-user and networking service design and management.
- Facilitating modular, multisupplier solutions.
- Helping to enable the growth of networked applications.
This Special Report (SR) to introduces the set of documents that comprises SR-NWT-002268, Cycle 1 Initial Specifications for
Information Networking Architecture (INA), which details the Intelligent Networking Architecture (INA) Field Experiment (FE) 1991
results. The set contains 11 documents, which cover the technical results of the INA FE effort, plus a "road map" document that
provides short summaries of each technical document and a suggested order for reading the documents.
This SR provides an introduction to the INA FE initiative and describes its goal, its approach, and how the technical concepts
treated in the main part of SR-NWT-002268 may be used to reach the goal.
