Generic Requirements for High-Bit-Rate Digital Subscriber Lines
Document Number TA-NWT-001210
Issue Number 01
Issue Date Oct 1991
ABSTRACT: This Technical Advisory (TA) provides the preliminary view of Telcordia on an initial set of generic requirements for High-bit-rate
Digital Subscriber Line (HDSL) transmission technology. The HDSL technology provides an alternative to repeatered T1 lines for a Local
Exchange Carrier (LEC) to support repeaterless DS1(1.544 Mbps) rate access over copper loops that conform to Carrier Serving Area (CSA)
This technology is intended to help a LEC meet increasing demand, for DS1 rate access in a timely and cost effective fashion to
improve utilization of the embedded base of copper facilities until fiber deployment becomes ubiquitous. HDSL will deliver DS1
services such as High Capacity Digital Service (HCDS), Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Primary Rate Access, Switched
Multimegabit Data Service (SMDS), and Switched-DS1/Switched Fractional DS1 (SWF-DS1).
