ABSTRACT: Re-enterable splice encapsulant protects metallic cable splices in the direct buried plant. It fills the spaces between the primary closure and the wire work and bonds to the conductors and connectors. While it is expected that the primary closure will provide mechanical and chemical protection, the encapsulant should be usable in flexible or rigid body closures. The encapsulant is the major barrier to any intruding agent that may travel to the core of the cable.
