ABSTRACT: This document replaces TA-TSY-000757.

This Technical Reference (TR) sets forth the Telcordia view of generic requirements for a 1.0kVA to 200kVA Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) with a remote monitoring capability. The intention is that these requirements would meet the needs of a typical service provider for powering AC loads.

This TR applies to UPSs that use electronic, electromechanical, or combinations of both technologies. AC loads include computer and computer peripherals used in the central office or in any equipment needing non-contaminated or reserve energy AC service.

UPSs provide regulated AC power to critical loads that cannot tolerate commercially supplied AC power that is contaminated with disturbances and perturbations. A UPS contains the means to power the telecommunications load during ac power interruptions and failure; for a minimum of 15 minutes or if essential to network operations for periods of up to eight hours.
