ABSTRACT: Transaction Language 1 (TL1) is a cross-vendor, cross-technology ASCII-based protocol. It is used as an Operations Systems (OSs) -
Network Element (NE) protocol and as a common Command Line Interface for NEs. TL1 is widely implemented in North America and beyond to
manage NEs of all types. GR-833 provides the TL1 message set for network surveillance and maintenance functions.
This document presents TL1 application messages for Network Element (NE) and transport surveillance functions covered in
TR-TSY-000473, GR-474, and GR-811. The messages and functions cover a wide variety of NE types, user needs, and supplier
innovations. Therefore, inclusion of a function or message should not be construed as necessarily implying a generic requirement on a
given piece of equipment; such requirements are covered in other product-specific Telcordia documents.
Breadth and flexibility are among the aims of this document. It is also recognized that no list of functions and messages is
completely exhaustive or comprehensive because of the rapidly evolving nature of the telecommunications industry. An individual network
operator may have different requirements, depending on the types of Operations Support Systems (OSSs) deployed in its company and on
other individual factors. Details about such specialized needs should be obtained from that network operator, as should actual
Issue 7 provides the following information:
- TL 1 support for Optical Transport Network (OTN) Elements based on ITU-T Rec. G.709
- New commands for managing tandem connection for OTN and SONET/SDH
- TL 1 support for 100 Gigabit ethernet with a new second modifier
- Clarified TL1 message routing based on TID
- New guidance on the use of AIDs and Condtypes
- Clarification of case sensitivity in TL1 Messages
This document replaces TA-NWT-000833 and TR-NWT-000833.
Issue 7 of GR-833, TL1 Surveillance and Maintenance Messages, replaces Issue 6.
